Walmart Associate Scholarship – The Walmart Associate Scholarship is a college scholarship available to Walmart and Sam’s Club associates who are based in the U.S.  Awards are based on demonstrated financial need and community involvement.  The Foundation’s Walmart Associate Scholarship is available for associates pursuing certificates, associate, bachelor, and graduate degrees through accredited institutions of higher education and for associates participating in the Lifelong Learning Program through American Public University. The Foundation accepts applications and awards Walmart Associate Scholarships four times a year, as set out in the chart.  The deadlines vary through the year starting on Aug. 1, 2011 until Aug. 1, 2012.  Information is available online at: www.walmartfoundation.org.

Be Brilliant Video Contest- The “Be Brilliant” video contest is a state-wide contest for all high-school and middle school students from across Utah.  The Utah School Counselor Association (USCA) wants to know how your school counselor (past or present) has helped you “Be Brilliant.”  The top ten videos will be selected from all entries, with first, second, and third place films receiving cash prizes.  All entries must be at least forty-five seconds in length, and no longer than two minutes and thirty seconds.  For complete details, visit www.utschoolcounselor.org or www.facebook.com/USCA2012Deadline: entries must be uploaded and approved by midnight on May 1, 2012 to be eligible.

Heber J. Grant Scholarship – BYU Idaho Open to future BYU-Idaho students. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with at least a 2.0 GPA. Students should apply now, whether they are a current or a future BYU-Idaho student. Information and the application can be found on the website, www.byui.edu/heberjgrant.  Deadline: May 1 for fall semester, October 1 for winter semester, February 1 for spring semester.

Nordstrom Scholarship (Juniors only) – Nordstrom awards college scholarships to hardworking high-school students with dreams of a higher education. Scholarship is paid out in equal installments of $2,500 over four years to the college of your choice. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, awards/honors, leadership, school activities, community/volunteer activities, financial and employment history. To be eligible you must be a high school Junior, have participated in community or volunteer activities, maintain a GPA of at least 2.7 throughout your high school career, plan to apply for financial assistance to attend college, and be eligible to attend a four –year college or university.  To apply go to: www.nordstrom.com/scholarship.  Deadline: May 1, 2012.

Youth Automobile Safety Scholarship Program- Civil Service Employees Insurance Company is pleased to announce this essay competition for high school seniors who are children of full-time or retired public employees. Scholarships ranging from $250 to $1500 will be awarded based on the merit of student essays that propose ways to reduce the accident rate among teenagers. Entry guidelines and application are available online at www.cseinsurance.com/scholarship.htm.  Deadline: May 11, 2012.

University Neighborhood Partners (UNP) Scholarship – Those eligible to apply for a scholarship are high school seniors and freshmen undergraduate students. Three scholarships of up to $3,000 each will be awarded and may be used for educational expenses, e.g. tuition, fees, books, and/or supplies. Scholarships may be used for any academic, vocational or technical program. The following criteria is needed: current and previous involvement in University Neighborhood Partners and commitment to the goals of the organization, the way in which this support will help to realize potential for future success and a statement of financial need. Applications are available at www.partners.utah.edu.  Deadline: May 11, 2012.

Ride On! Video Contest – Grab your riding gear, your friends and your camera, and create your own off-highway vehicle safety video. Utah Child Protection Registry Scholarship – The Utah Child Protection Registry is asking your students to get involved and compete for a $500 scholarship. You must be a State PTSA student representative. If you are not currently on the State PTSA student board, you can join now! Go to the Utah PTA student involvement page at http://www.utahpata.org/student-involvement to get helpful tips on how to become a delegate. Contact the State PTA student involvement commissioner, Patsy Chandler at pkchandler@comcast.net. Also, you can find your school’s PTA President or representative and make sure your school’s PTA is in good standing (membership dues are paid). Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship – To be eligible for this scholarship you must: As of May 30, 2012 be less than 25 years of age, and you are currently a senior in high school or in your first year of university or college. Applications can be found by going to: http://www.studentscholarships.org/scholarship.php.  There is no formal scholarship application. To apply write your scholarship essay (see website) in Microsoft Word or, if you do not have Microsoft Word, in Google office, the latter is free to use on the Internet. After you finish the writing process attach it to an email and send it to: studentawards@fitnessexercises.tv. If you have any questions forward them to Linda Wells at linda.wells@fitnessexercises.tv.   Amount: $5,000.   Deadline: May 30, 2012.

American Indian College Fund Full Circle Scholarships- Native students studying virtually any subject who are pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees at both tribal colleges and universities and non-tribal colleges and universities are eligible to apply for American Indian College Fund Full Circle Scholarships.  These scholarships are generally based upon merit or demonstrated financial need.  Applicants must be registered as a member of a tribe or a descendant of at least one grandparent or parent who is an enrolled tribal member.  For more information and to apply, visit collegefund.org/scholarships Deadline: May 31, 2012

Congratulations Engineering!

At the recent annual conference for the International Technology & Engineering Educator Association (ITEEA), the Technology Education Program at JATC was recognized as one of only 29 programs worldwide to earn the prestigious PROGRAM EXCELLENCE AWARD.

Sponsored by ITEEA and Paxton/Patterson, the Program Excellence Award is one of the highest honors given to Technology Education classroom teachers on the elementary, middle or high school levels.  It is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession and students.  Schools from all over the United States and around the world compete for this honor.

 

Each year the Program Excellence winners are recognized at the largest conference for Technology Educators in the world.  This year the program at JATC was recognized at the first general session of the conference where the award plaques and pins were presented.  A synopsis of our program was displayed through a multimedia presentation.

The teachers for this program are Michael Smoot and Kirk Terry. They have been Engineering Education educators at the JATC since 2003.

We appreciate your support of our program which contributed significantly to our ability to earn this distinction. We look forward to you visiting our technology education lab at your earliest convenience. Your presence in our lab would excite our students even more.
