Montana State Presidential Scholarship – The Presidential Scholarships at Montana State University are the most prestigious scholarships awarded by the university, includes a full tuition waiver as well as a generous stipend for four years.  Up to twenty scholarships will be awarded.  Finalists, who do not receive the Presidential Scholarship, will be considered for the Provost Scholarship, which also includes a full tuition waiver for four years. Finalists are selected on the basis of their written application; providing evidence of academic accomplishments, intellectual and creative distinctions, extracurricular activities with leadership, service or scholarly components, letters of reference and original essays.  Applications may be downloaded at:  www.montana.edu/honors. The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program (The University of Texas at Dallas) – Priority Deadline: November 1, 2011: Priority Deadline for student application and counselor recommendation—ensures notification concerning semifinalist status by November 15. December 5, 2011: Semifinalist Deadline for invited students to submit three additional recommendations-ensures notification concerning finalist status by January 25. John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest – Students in high school grades nine through twelve attending public, private, parochial, or home schools are eligible.  Original essays can be no more than 1,000 words.  Essays must describe an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official that occurred during or after 1956, the publication date of Profiles in Courage.  Essays about previous Profile in Courage recipients will be disqualified unless they describe an act of political courage other than the act for which the award was given.  Essays must have a minimum of five sources, including one non-internet source.  To enter online and for complete guidelines, visit the profile in Courage Award at www.jfklibrary.org.   Deadline:  January 7, 2012.

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Youth Activist ScholarshipThe ACLU of Utah will award three $1,000 scholarships to eligible college-bound high school seniors who have demonstrated a strong commitment to civil liberties through some form of activism. The scholarship will be sent to the student’s university or college to be used for educational expenses.  Eligibility Requirements include:  Utah Residency, High school senior planning on entering an accredited college or university as a full-time, degree seeking student, Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (if GPA is lower, applicant is still eligible but must submit an explanation for the GPA), and Proof of strong commitment to civil liberties through some form of activism addressing such issues as equality, racial justice, free speech, religious freedom, tolerance, and privacy.  Application includes an essay, 2 recommendations, and an official high school transcript so apply early.  Visit www.acluutah.org/scholarship.html for full details and to apply online.  Deadline: Monday, January 9, 2012.

Ron Brown Scholars Program – The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card. Burger King Scholars Program –Win a $50,000, $25,000, $5000, or $1000 scholarship!  High School Seniors, Burger King employees and children of Burger King employees are eligible to apply.  For complete eligibility requirements and to apply, visit http://www.haveityourwayfoundation.org/bksp_scholarship_eligibility.html  The BK Scholars application period runs from November 15, 2011-January 10, 2012. The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Scholarship  – GMS will select 1,000 students to receive a renewable, need-based, merit scholarship providing financial support throughout your undergraduate career (and doctoral degree in some cases) at any U.S. accredited college or University. Gates Millennium Scholars are provided with personal and professional development through leadership programs along with academic support throughout their college career. Please take the time to read all of the eligibility criteria and instructions before beginning your application. Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they: •Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American •Are a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States •Have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or have earned a GED •Will enroll for the first time at a U.S. located, accredited college or university in the fall of 2011 as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student (with the exception of students pursuing a high school diploma while concurrently enrolled–what Itineris students are doing). •Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities •Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria (must submit a FAFSA application and be pell eligible) •Have completed and submitted all three required forms: Student Application (Nominee Personal Information Form), an evaluation of the student’s academic record (Nominator Form) and an evaluation of the student’s community service and leadership activities (Recommender Form) by the deadline.  For more information and application materials, visit www.gmsp.org.  This scholarship is an outstanding opportunity, but the application is time consuming–so start early!  Deadline: January 11, 2012.

The Society of American Military Engineers Scholarship – The Great Basin Post of the Society of American Military Engineers invites high school seniors attending a Utah high school who plan to pursue an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited engineering degree or NAAB (National Architectural Board) architecture degree, to apply for a Lt. Col. G. Roger Sunada $1,800 college scholarship.  Award of three scholarships is anticipated.  The Great Basin post currently anticipates awarding multiple $1,800 dollar scholarships to Utah high school seniors in 2012.  Fill out the application at http://posts.same.org/greatbasin and write a short essay telling what you hope to contribute to society through a career in engineering or architecture. Deadline:  January 13, 2012.

Create-A-Greeting Card Scholarship Contest – Applicants must be 14 years of age or older at the time of entry and a legal resident of the United States.  One application allowed per person.  The contest begins March 17, 2011 and ends on January 14, 2012.  Applications submitted after January 14, 2012 are not eligible.  All original artwork including but not limited to digitally uploaded images, original photographs, paintings, drawings and otherwise submitted material will not be returned to the entrant.  Contest participants should register on the www.gallerycollection.com website.  Look for the scholarship page on the site and complete the online application.  A printable entry form is available online at www.gallerycollection.com/greeting-cards-scholarship.htm.   The applicant with the winning entry will receive a cash scholarship of $10,000 plus a $1,000 prize for their school. Deadline:  January 14, 2012.

SAE Engineering Scholarship – Must be senior at the date of application, intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science (refer to the criteria on each scholarship page to determine if you are eligible to apply), meet minimum requirements with regard to GPA, SAT, and/or ACT scores as outlined in the individual requirements of each scholarship.  Applicant must enroll in an accredited engineering program or the named university for the particular scholarship.  Scholarships are paid directly to the college or university.  Applications are available online at www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm. Deadline:  January 15, 2012.

Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship- these scholarships range from $500-$5,000 and are for students planning careers in government service.  Scholarships are to be used for study at the college of the recipient’s choice (other awards in amounts as the judges may determine).  Eligibility: competition is open to all high school seniors who are U.S. citizens and are planning careers of service to the United States in local, state, or federal government.  Entrants receiving full four-year scholarships shall be eligible for one-year special awards.  To apply and learn more, visit www.gwcf.org.  Deadline: January 15, 2012.

Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship – This scholarship is for High School seniors planning careers in government service.  Amount: $500 to $5,000. Learn more and apply online at: http://www.gwcf.org.  Deadline: Jan 25, 2012.

Ronald McDonald House National Student Scholarships – Applicant must be a high school senior.  This scholarship recognizes academic achievement, community involvement and leadership, and financial need.  Scholarships available:   RMHC/Asia-applicant must have at least one parent of Asian/Pacific-Islander heritage, RMHC/African American Future Achievers-applicant must have at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage, RMHC/Hacer- applicant must have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage, RMHC Scholars – All students can apply.  Students may only apply for one national RMHC scholarship.  Minimum amount is $1,000.  To apply go to www.rmhc.org.  Deadline:  January 27, 2012.

National Multiple Sclerosis Scholarship – Applications are accepted online only. You will be prompted to set up a user account. Be sure to use a valid email where you can always be reached. Read the checklist, FAQs, and instructions. Note the timelines!  To be eligible: High school seniors who have a parent with MS who will be attending an accredited post-secondary school for the first time, high school seniors who have MS and will be attending an accredited post-secondary school for the first time, high School (or GED) graduates of any age who have MS and who will be attending an accredited post-secondary school for the first time, high School (or GED) graduates of any age who have a parent with MS and who will be attending an accredited post-secondary school for the first time, applicants must be United States citizens or legal residents living in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam or any other U.S. territory and plan to enroll in an undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school located in the U.S., PR, VI, Guam or any other U.S. territory, applicants must be enrolled in at least six credit hours per semester in course work leading to a degree, license, or certificate.  Begin by obtaining the documents that you will need to mail. This can often take more time than you expect. Save yourself some stress and don’t delay. All deadlines are firm.  The application is at the following website:  www.nationalmssociety.org/.  Deadline:  January 31, 2012.

Utah Association of Educational Office Professionals – The Utah Association of Educational Office Professionals is offering a $500 scholarship for students planning a business office career.   Applicant must have completed two (2) or more year-long business education courses. The application is on the UAEOP web site and applicants can type directly onto the application.  Use the following web site, www.uaeop.org, and click on “awards” and then “student scholarship.”   Applicants should type directly on the form and then print out a paper copy for submission.  Deadline:  January 31, 2012.

National Eagle Scout Merit Scholarship – Applicant must be an Eagle Scout having passed the board of review on or before January 31, 2012, demonstrate leadership ability in Scouting and a strong record of participation in activities outside of Scouting, and provide one recommendation letter from a scout leader who knows the applicant personally.  This is the only endorsement required.  There are two scholarships:  the National Eagle Scout Merit Scholarship and the Eagle Scout Academic Scholarship.  Applications are available online at:  www.nesa.org/applaications. Deadline:  Postmarked by January 31, 2012.

National Eagle Scout Academic Scholarship – Applicants must be an Eagle Scout having passed the board of review on or before January 32, 2012, provide a transcript of high school grades covering a minimum of six semesters, an ACT composite score of 28, have demonstrated leadership ability in Scouting and a strong record of participation in activities outside of Scouting.  Complete the Financial need section of the application and must be signed by the applicant and countersigned by the parent.  Provide one signed recommendation letter from a volunteer or professional Scout leader who knows the applicant personally.  This is the only endorsement required.  There are two scholarships:  the National Eagle Scout Merit Scholarship and the Eagle Scout Academic Scholarship.  Applications can be obtained online at: www.nesa.org/applications. Deadline:  Postmarked by January 31, 2012.

University of Utah Chicana/o Scholarship – In 1973, in honor of the ideals and principles of equal opportunity and social justice in education, a group of Chicana/os comprised of members from the community and University of Utah students, staff, and faculty initiated the Chicana/o Scholarship Fund at the University of Utah. Committed to all students of diversity who promote the cultural pride and tradition of the Chicana/o-Latina/o community, the Chicana/o Scholarship Fund recognizes and assists students in their undergraduate and/or graduate education endeavors. The Chicana/o Scholarship Fund awards a total of eight scholarships in an academic year. Four scholarships in the amount of $2500 are awarded to graduating high school seniors who will be entering their freshman year at the University of Utah. Three scholarships in the amount of $2000 are awarded to undergraduate students at the University of Utah. One scholarship in the amount of $1500 is awarded to graduate students at the University of Utah.   Eligible students are selected on the basis of family background, life challenges, scholastic effort and involvement in community activities that promote cultural pride and strengthen the Chicana/o-Latina/o community. JATC Student Ambassadors attended the 12th Annual Leadership Conference at Utah Valley University, CHOICE : The Catalyst of Character.

The keynote speaker was Sean Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and the 6 Most Important Decisions You’ll Ever Make. He addressed the critical choices that teens face today, and how they can apply the 7 Habits to unleash their individual greatness. The keynote was followed by a number of breakout sessions.
